Are we able to discuss HOA issues in this forum?
Yes, absolutely! The HOA took our neighborhood forum away, so have at it. All the local neighborhoods have a thread on here for that purpose.
Nothing is off limits, this is your sounding board, if I may speak for our fearless forum leader Keith.
I was just wondering if I'm alone in feeling that the HOA is enforcing ARCs and deed restrictions both selectively and inconsistently (or one due to the other -- inconsistent because only done selectively)??? I've not been directly targeted this time - I've learned to lay low. It seems the more you dispute or point out errors to the HOA the more issues you seem to have. However, I know of many instances throughout the development that the HOA seems to be "picking on" certain people and letting others slide by with blatant violations and unapproved ARCs.
So, I was just wondering if it is just me or if there are any others that feel the same.
I don't think you are alone in feeling this way, believe me. There are a couple board members who have been on this forum in the past, hopefully they will see this and offer some input.
Last year we painted our house. We had picked out a color and had it denied, because it was apparently too dark, when there were homes newly painted with dark colors. So now I guess they have a specific color sample deck that the homeowners are supposed to choose from. We had other issues and like you said, it seems the more noise you make the more difficult they can be.
They shut down the original South Pointe website and forum because homeowners were voicing their opinions (and not a lot of them were towing the party line of the HOA) and so it got shut down.
I know there is a problem with abandoned homes with foreclosures and all, but there are homes that are lived in that look like total crap and I wonder how they are getting away with it.
We recently got two notices from the HOA. I find it very annoying. One was for our garbage can being out the day before garbage day. Really ridiculous because 99.9% of the time it is in the garage. Only time we ever take it out early is because we have alot of garbage to throw out or so we dont forget in the morning. Unreal! The second letter was regarding the white part near our roof being dirty. Again unreal, since the last time we cleaned it so much that part of the white color has come off in some areas. I personally dont think you can even tell unless you are looking for it. We take very good care of our yard and home and when you drive by our house it is obvious that we do care about how our home looks, otherwise would we have paid to have the yard replaced with St. Augustine grass and pay someone monthly to spray it, to keep it that way. It is just very annoying because, as previously stated by others who posted, there are many many homes that look like they have been just left and their yards are very unkept. So yes, I am frustrated!
That is ridiculous. That white part of the house just gets discolored with age and it is really hard to notice unless you are looking for it. The garbage can thing is crazy too. It's nice to know that we have enough money in the budget for all that paper and postage for useless violation letters.
I would be interested in knowing how in the hole we are from people not paying their dues.
Ok, I have to ask. What is an ARC? I'm not up on all this HOA stuff since I live in the boonies (or at least some people think I do).
OMG! Your serious! They really have something like that? I must be getting senile. I had no idea it had gotten to that. What were these people thinking?Architectural Review Committe.
Hey seriously, I know that these folks are trying to save the world from itself. They create all these restrictions, rules and regs, make everything all touchie feelie so nobody gets offended and everyone is uniform
(kinda like the military and catholic schools).
So you pay your fees, follow all the rules, so does the neighbor on one side. The other neighbor got forclosed on. He doesn't pay, his yard is three feet tall full of cigarette butts and even has an unrolled hose laying in the yard (GASP). The guy across the street rents so he doesn't give a crap about anything; so his place looks like hell. The only one getting complaints and fines by these exaulted rulers is you.
Is that about right?
In and of itself an HOA is not a bad idea. Most HOA's have either an ARC, or an ARB (replace committee with board). This idea is your neighbor doesn't paint his house fire engine red, or decide to paint a dragon on his garage door.
Up north HOA's are run well, and for the most part efficient. For what ever reason down here they just end up going to hell. For some reason people on the board take that as some position of power, which is rediculous.
To be honest with you i don't want to live in a neighborhood where my neighbors have chevy's up on cinder blocks on the front yard, or decide to put a shed right in the front yard, or some other non-sense.
The problem, which you sotf of pointed out, is foreclosures and rentals. People know now banks are dragging their feet on foreclosures, so houses end up in disrepair for God knows how long, and the rest of the people in the neighborhood have to pay for it.
The idea behind and HOA is sound, its just bad timing, and from what I have seen, they are out of control here in FL.
