Dade officer charged with driving patrol car drunk

Posted on Wed, Dec. 19, 2007
A longtime Miami-Dade officer, in uniform and driving his patrol car, was arrested on a drunken driving charge in Palm Beach County, state troopers say.

Jeffrey Janish, 51, was released from the Palm Beach County jail at 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Janish was arrested Monday night after a witness saw him driving ''erratically'' on Florida's Turnpike near Okeechobee Boulevard. Janish also blew through a toll plaza ''in excess of the posted speed,'' said Florida Highway Patrol Officer Lt. Michael Brown.

The officer has been relieved of duty with pay pending the investigation, said Miami-Dade Detective Mario Rachid, a spokesman.

Assigned to the department's courts security bureau, he was hired in June 1983. He worked at the Hialeah branch courthouse. Janish has been commended 33 times during his career. He has been reprimanded just once -- in July 2006, for violating ``general conduct.''

His last evaluation was rated outstanding, Rachid said.

He needs to be relieved of his friggin badge. Hypocrite. Cops acting like they're above the law is my biggest pet peeve.
