I never posted a message here although I have enjoyed reading yours for several months. I never had a topic that I thought would be of interest, but that changed this past Friday! It may still not be of great interest, but I really need a place to vent! I have lived on a "quiet" no outlet street (not in a subdivision) for almost 12 years. All these years, I have done a lot of work to my house and yard. Recently, I bought a foreclosed house in the same street. It used to belong to a drug dealer, and is in pretty bad shape. Most neighbors are happy about me fixing it up. But not all it seems! Friday, I found a "Notice of visit" from the Code Enforcement Department! I wasn't pleased, as you can imagine, but the worst had yet to come! I found another "Notice" at the house where I live!!!???? After calling the county office, I found out someone had called complaining about both of my houses, with specifics like "large pool in the back yard", "new concrete driveway", "house addition",...!!!
If you have any idea who called on me, please let me know! I refuse to become the frustrated guy who is going to call in every little infractions he noticed around him! But I will also feel compelled to turn in the coward who called the county anonymously for any step sideways!! I'm so mad right now, I would even make a citizen arrest if he or she goes 1 mile over the speed limit!!!
To whomever called the County
First, mind your own freaking business!
Second, what have I done to you?
I'm not perfect, but I didn't think I made anybody mad enough to do something like this!
What is your purpose?
The only outcome is that I may have to pay more property taxes. I'll write the check to the County, not to you! And no matter what I pay, your property taxes will not be lowered!
Are you the ONLY Floridian who thinks we are not, already, paying way too much in property tax?
Are you simply jealous?
Let me give you the short version of my life! I first came to Louisiana as a French teacher from Belgium without knowing more than 5 words of English. I came here (legally) to live the American dream (you must be part of the nightmare). A few years later, my wife and I settled in Riverview. That was almost 12 years ago! We have been raising our son, have build our own business from scratch and have transformed, ourselves, the little house we bought into (almost) a mansion! The size of our home, the fact we have a pool, and a concrete driveway are only due to our hard work in our business to buy the material, and our own sweat to actually build them!!!! We couldn't even afford to pay someone to do it for us!
So, if you are so unhappy about your situation, instead of spending time trying to get your neighbor(s?) in trouble, get off your butt and do something about it!
I'm also sure you are the kind of person who blames the government, and everybody else for the shortcomings in your life! This is an attitude that unfortunately doesn't only apply to you! Stop pointing fingers, I'm living proof that in this great country of ours, with hard work you can achieve all your dreams and more!
Now, we bought a foreclosed house in our street and are working hard to fix it. We are not looking for a quick flip, but more thinking about a retirement plan... We are not waiting to find out that social security may not be enough... What problem do you have about that!?
